AP Research is an advanced placement course that allows students to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, or issue of personal interest. Over the course of the year, students design and conduct a year-long independent research project, applying research methodology, ethical practices, and scholarly techniques. The culmination of the course is a 4,000–5,000-word academic paper and a 15–20 minute presentation with an oral defense.
The course emphasizes critical thinking, analytical writing, time management, and communication—skills essential for college and career readiness.
Key Components:
Development of a research question
In-depth literature review
Data collection and analysis (qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods)
Academic writing
