AP Art History is a college-level course that introduces students to the global history of art, spanning from ancient times to the present. The course encourages students to examine art through multiple lenses—historical, cultural, religious, political, and social—while forming evidence-based interpretations and comparisons.

Image Set Study: In-depth analysis of 250 prescribed works of art across geographical regions and chronological periods
Visual and Contextual Analysis: Practice interpreting form, function, content, and context to understand an artwork’s purpose and meaning
Writing and Comparison Skills: Development of clear, analytical writing to explain visual evidence and compare works across cultures and timeframes
AP Art History is assessed primarily through a comprehensive exam administered in May, which accounts for 100% of the AP score. The exam evaluates students’ knowledge of art history, visual analysis skills, and ability to make contextual connections.The exam consists of:
Multiple-Choice Questions: Approximately 80 questions that test recognition, recall, and interpretation of artworks, as well as understanding of art historical concepts and contexts.
Short-Answer Questions: Four questions requiring brief written responses analyzing works of art or comparing multiple works.
Long Essay Questions: Two essays that ask students to develop coherent, evidence-based arguments about specific artworks or themes, demonstrating historical understanding and critical thinking.
