AP African American Studies does not have a traditional end-of-course exam (as of the current pilot phase). Instead, students complete a combination of assessments that are submitted to the College Board and make up 100% of the AP score. These assessments include:
-
Research Project: A student-designed research paper exploring a significant topic in African American history, culture, politics, or the arts, demonstrating inquiry, analysis, and use of scholarly sources.
-
In-Class Assessments: Source-based short answer and essay questions that assess students’ ability to interpret texts, analyze historical and cultural developments, and construct evidence-based arguments.
The final assessment is evaluated for depth of understanding, analytical thinking, use of evidence, and clarity of written communication.
